'My Little Bossings', 'Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy' still leading
MANILA -- The 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is on a record-breaking streak as it earned an additional P100 million on its second day, organizers said Friday, putting it on track to be the most successful edition of the 39-year-old event.
At the close of nationwide screenings on December 26, the MMFF's eight competing entries grossed P234 million, Metro Manila Development Authority chairperson Francis Tolentino told ABS-CBNnews.com.
This box-office take, Tolentino noted, is 34% higher than the 2012 festival's record two-day earnings.
The Christmas Day box office of this year's MMFF was also a record-breaker at P134 million, which is 23% higher than the 2012 opening-day gross of P105 million.
A notable fraction of the first-day earnings is from the comedy film "My Little Bossings," according to star and producer Kris Aquino, as it turned in P50.4 million on December 25 alone. This figure, Aquino noted, breaks the record for "highest opening day gross for a Filipino movie."
Tolentino has yet to specify the gross earnings of each of the eight competing films this year, but confirmed to ABS-CBNnews.com Friday that the four top earners on opening day did not change in rankings after the December 26 nationwide screenings.
Placing second to "My Little Bossings" is the Vice Ganda-starrer "Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy." The lone horror film in the festival, "Pagpag: Siyam na Buhay," is still at No. 3, followed by the comedy film "Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel."
Trailing in earnings, in no particular order, are the action flicks "10,000 Hours" and "Boy Golden: Shoot to Kill (The Arturo Porcuna Story)," the historical biopic "Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir," and the dance musical "Kaleidoscope World."
